BC Parks to launch new East Hastings campsite

In a groundbreaking move, BC Parks has announced the launch of a brand-new campsite on East Hastings Street in the Downtown East Side. Located between Carrall Street and Main Street, the campsite will offer 80 reservable spots and is expected to generate over $1 million in revenue within its first year.

The new campsite became available due to the recent eviction of past residents on this block. Park officials have already witnessed eager campers attempting to set up their tents, even though the campsite has not yet been opened to the public.

Mayor Ken Sim expressed his excitement about the project during a press conference earlier today, stating, "This is a great day for our city! The opening of this new campsite is a testament to our commitment to creating a safe and welcoming community for all."

The campsite will feature sustainable fire pits made from recycled cardboard, hiking trails through back-alleys, and opportunities to see rare local birds and rodents that nest in the surrounding infrastructure. Sheryl Lowe, a single mom and camping enthusiast from Strathcona, was pleased to see the province opening more campsites in the western regions. "Finally, a place where my kids can experience nature and learn new skills without having to leave the city! I'm beyond excited," she exclaimed.

However, some residents in the area have expressed disinterest in the new campsite. "We already have free camping available at Crab Park a few blocks away. There's no way I'm paying the expected $80 per night to set up in this area," one resident stated.

Despite the controversy, BC Parks remains committed to the project, and reservations for the new campsite will begin on April 30th. More information can be found on the BC Parks website. Happy camping!
